Apple iMac Gets Updated Processors and Graphics

Apple’s iMac line of desktop computers has received a few hardware upgrades, while retaining the same slim casings that the company introduced with last year’s models. Both the 21.5-inch and 27-inch versions have been updated with new processors, graphics, and faster flash storage.

The smaller model now starts with a 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 Haswell processor and Iris Pro graphics, and both sizes are available with quad-core Intel Core i5 processors up to 3.4Ghz and Nvidia GeForce 700 series graphics. Those with the need (and the cash) can choose to pick up a new iMac with a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor up to 3.5GHz and Nvidia GeForce GTX 780M series graphics with 4GB of video memory.

The new iMac line has also been updated to support 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and now features improved flash storage capabilities, which Apple claims is up to 50 percent faster than the previous models. 1TB or 3TB Fusion Drive options are available, as well as the option for all-flash storage up to 1TB. Memory starts at 8GB and can be upgraded up to 32GB.

The 21.5-inch model starts at $1,299, and the 27-inch iMac can be picked up for at least $1,799 — both entry-level prices are the same as last year’s models. The refreshed iMacs are available starting today.
